National Trend Advisory Commitee FAQ's
Q: What is the time commitment for being on the National Trend Advisory Committee?
A: Initially it is estimated will take you 1-4 hours to look through the Trend and Impact reports that we will send you. Then it may take you an hour or so to come up with what you think are the top 5 trends in the nonprofit human service field.
Everyone approaches this work in a different way, some may read the entire report others may read the sections they are most familiar with.
Another part of the process that will take some time is giving us your impact statements. After the Severson Center librarians review all the committee's input we will compile what the Top 5 Trends are. We will then ask committee members to give us what impacts these are having on their agency in particular or in general how they are influencing and affecting our field. This may take one to two hours. For this kind of work; most people probably read this information then take a few days to have it mull around in their minds, then they come up with their impacts.
An ongoing time commitment, is the impacts that the Severson Center will request from Committee members from time to time. During the year we will be asking you to give us some impacts on specific trends. This will probably take 1-2 hours on a quarterly basis.
Q: Is there any travel or meetings involved with being on the Trend Committee?
A: No, we conduct all business on the committee via email and a listserv. Occasionally a teleconference may be scheduled as needed.
Q: What qualifications do I need to be part of the Trend Committee?
A: The basic qualification for joining the committee is that you can commit your time to the project. Thoroughly reviewing the complete catalog of trends and impacts will take some time. As well as thinking and reflecting on what the top trends are then composing the impacts. Another qualification is that the person has a professional position within an Alliance member agency. We would like a variety of professionals so we can get different points of views on trends and impacts.
